3 Chait, Kathmandu. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has honored the players of the Nepal National Cricket Team who succeeded in making a place in the Global Qualifier of the World Cup by finishing third in the ICC Cricket World Cup League Two.
Prime Minister Prachanda honored all the members of the Nepalese team at the event held in Waluwatar this Friday morning. Nepal defeated the UAE by 9 runs at home on Thursday and finished third in the Cricket World Cup League Two and confirmed their place in the World Cup Qualifiers.
The Prime Minister expressed his happiness while honoring the players. The Prime Minister said ‘I am very happy. The way you performed yesterday, not only did you win, the country won. The self-esteem of the country has increased, the pride of the nation has increased. May your performance be even better in the coming days, I wish you all the best in advance.’
Nepal had won 11 out of 12 matches with an incredible performance in the span of a month. In which they won all four matches of the last two series at home and swept three of the four matches in the UAE series.
Nepal, which is third in League Two after collecting 40 points from 36 matches behind Namibia, will now play the World Cup qualifier in Zimbabwe in June and July. The top two teams from the 10-team qualifiers will qualify for the World Cup in India in October-November.
3 lakhs announced to the players
Prime Minister Prachanda has announced to give 3 lakh rupees to the players.
The Prime Minister said, ‘Even before this, the government has already awarded you two lakh rupees each. Today I announce that you will be awarded three lakh rupees each.’
After winning the triangular series involving Scotland and Namibia last month, the Prime Minister invited the players in Baluwatar and announced that they would give 2 lakhs. Now, the Prime Minister has announced that the team that won the series involving UAE and Papua New Guinea and succeeded in qualifying for the World Cup will give 300,000.
According to which, now the players announced last month and announced now will get a cash prize of 5 lakh rupees, said National Sports Council Member Secretary Tanklal Ghisingh.
Ghising made it clear that although the government has made a procedure for awarding sports awards to athletes, the Prime Minister had to announce the award because that procedure did not include this competition.
Instructions for installation of floatlights and score board at Trivi Cricket ground
Prime Minister Prachanda has also instructed the National Sports Council to immediately install modern floodlights and score boards at the cricket ground in Kirtipur.
According to his secretariat, the Prime Minister has also expressed his commitment to make necessary arrangements from the Government of Nepal to speed up the construction of cricket stadiums under construction at various places in the country including Mulpani, Chitwan.
