Two 15-year-olds have been charged with the murder of 16-year-old Brianna Ghey, who was found stabbed to death in a park in Warrington.
It was confirmed by Cheshire Police yesterday that police investigating the murder had been granted a 30-hour extension to question the two suspects.
Officers also confirmed they were pursuing “all lines of investigation, including whether this was a hate crime”.
The trans schoolgirl, described as “fearless” by her devastated family, was found dead in a park in Warrington on Saturday.
Police had previously confirmed that his killing was considered a “targeted attack”.
On Tuesday evening, a series of vigils were held in Warrington and Bristol in memory of the teenager.
Many members of the LGBT+ community came out to mourn the loss of Brianna, many bringing pride and transgender flags and holding signs such as “Rest in Power” and “Rest in Love”.
Warrington’s vigil was held by Brianna’s friends to remember her and show their support, just hours after police said they could not rule out her killing a hate crime.

Many also attended a candlelight vigil in Bristol to mourn the death of the transgender teenager

Crowds also gathered in Bristol city center to remember Brianna just days after her death.
Mourners from College Green in the city played music and posed for pictures of the 16-year-old at the vigil.
Vigils organized by members of the transgender community are also due to be held in cities including London, Glasgow, Leeds and Belfast in the coming days.
Brianna’s death has sparked an outpouring of grief from her family and friends.
It was earlier revealed that the schoolgirl was allegedly tormented by a gang of bullies at her school because she was trans, and her father complained about it.
Brianna was found by members of the public lying injured on a path in Linear Park, Culcheth at around 3.13pm, and tragically died a short time later.
Yesterday police said they were given a 30-hour extension to continue questioning the two arrested teenage girls suspected of his murder.
In recent days, devastated classmates and classmates from Birchwood Community High School have been seen laying flowers and tributes near where she was found.
This is breaking news and is being updated.
