Gareth Williams, defending, said Khanom suffered from a personality disorder and PTSD and had used alcohol and drugs, but did not intend to harm anyone with the fire .

Judge Michael Fitton KC told him, “It was a very serious offense, you were responsible for the fire in a residential area where children were playing in the street.

“The risk to other people, not just firefighters and residents, was a significant risk.

“Based on what you’ve been struggling with for some time, the worst thing you can do is use alcohol, cannabis or other drugs as a form of self-medication or treatment.

“It’s a disaster to mix an emotionally unstable personality disorder with alcohol and drugs.”
