Fans who have been eagerly awaiting the next Super Mario Bros. took a closer look on Tuesday when the film’s second trailer was released.
The clip gave a fuller view of Chris Pratt’s vocal performance as iconic plumber and adventurer Mario, as well as more time spent on his brother Luigi (voiced by It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s Charlie Day) and Peach (voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy).
Early reactions on social media to the new trailer have been decidedly mixed, with fans complimenting the incredibly detailed computer-animated visuals while continuing to feel that Pratt was the ‘weakest link’ among the all-star cast. , which has previously been criticized for a lack of diversity.

The trailer opens in the middle of the action, as Mario steps out of the shadows into an arena, where he walks through the middle of a thin platform suspended in the air.
The cartoonish gladiator leaps into the air for a mighty punch against Donkey Kong (voiced by Seth Rogen), but his hopes of a triumphant victory are comically dashed when the gorilla slaps him and begins to pulverize him.
The intro gives a good look at the quality of the animation with a close-up of Mario’s hilarious expressions of pain as he’s pummeled by Donkey Kong.
Meanwhile, Peach and Toad (Keegan-Michael Key) try to look away at the sight of their champion losing so dramatically.

It becomes clear Mario is on a quest at Peach’s behest when Bowser (Jack Black) makes a sinister appearance.
The evil turtle with the spiky shell terrorizes Luigi, who seems to have separated from Mario, as he holds him captive in his claws.
“I don’t know if you know who I am, but I’m about to take over the world,” Bowser says by way of introduction.
“But there’s a problem,” he continues as Mario is seen bouncing off mushrooms somewhere in the distance while chasing Toad.

Captive: It becomes clear Mario is on a quest at Peach’s behest when Bowser (Jack Black) makes a sinister appearance. The evil turtle with the spiky shell terrorizes Luigi, who seems to have separated from Mario, as he holds him captive in his claws

Threat: “I don’t know if you know who I am, but I’m about to rule the world,” Bowser says by way of introduction. “But there’s a problem,” he continues as Mario is seen bouncing off mushrooms somewhere in the distance while chasing Toad.
‘There is a human. He has a mustache…just like you,” Bowser says as he tortures Luigi by tugging on one of his mustache hairs.
‘Do you think I know every human being with a mustache wearing an identical outfit with a hat with the letter of their first name on it!’ Luigi responds comically.
‘Because I don’t!’ he says just as Bowser pulls his hair out and he lets out a dramatic scream.
Bowser’s spooky floating castle is then seen floating towards Peach’s kingdom with plumes of smoke and flame surrounding it.

“Together we’ll stop this monster,” she said confidently before removing her dress and donning a pale pink jumpsuit as she headed into battle with Toad by her side.
But not everyone is convinced, including one of the little mushrooms, who intervenes: “How? Look at us. We are adorable!’
The trailer then previews its take on classic Mario Bros. gameplay, as the main character must jump over floating bricks and obstacles as part of his quest.
