Delhi’s polluted air: Suggestion not to leave home for two days

The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has issued a warning after the weather conditions in New Delhi became very bad. It advises critically ill, children, the elderly and pregnant women not to go out of the house for at least two days. The decision was taken at a review meeting of the CPCB on Friday. The meeting said that the weather conditions till November 18 would be very unfavorable for the spread of pollution.

The CPCB has also directed government and private sector employees to reduce the use of private transport by 30 per cent. Similarly, those suffering from cough, cold and chest pain are advised to rest at home. In the last 24 hours, the average air quality index (AQUI) in Delhi was 471 as of 4 pm. This is the worst ever. Thursday’s AQI was 411. The board said air quality had remained critical for 48 hours. The board has suggested the state and local bodies to implement emergency measures.
