EMILY PRESCOTT: Uni is a drag for Ed Balls boy Joel, 22, as he takes the stage as a drag queen with a Princess Diana-inspired stage name

Former Labor MP and star of Strictly Ed Balls nearly dropped his partner Katya Jones during a dance, so maybe he can get some advice on his son Joel’s performance.
The 22-year-old student took to the stage as drag queen Mrs Vanity Vengeance for a fundraiser at the University of Warwick – with her stage name inspired by Princess Diana.
I’m told this happened after a friend noted the similarity between Joel’s chosen outfit and Diana’s famous “revenge dress,” which she wore the night Charles admitted adultery.
Joel, whose mother is the first Labor MP Yvette Cooper, tells me: “While the first 15 minutes of a first drag are always going to be daunting, the cheers and excitement in the room quickly overpowered that and it was a joyful and stimulating experience.”

I only ask because the former Lib Dem leader, who recently revealed plans to partially return to the UK from Silicon Valley, has set up his own company called Three Tigers Holdings with high-flying female lawyer Miriam.
Historian Suzannah Lipscomb: I’m not a Boleyn girl

Television historian Suzannah Lipscomb
She could write books featuring Henry VIII, Anne Boleyn and the Tudors, but some would prefer TV historian Suzannah Lipscomb to dress like them too.
Suzannah, 44, reveals she has had comments saying she should wear longer, more ‘girly’ skirts when appearing on TV.
But the award-winning author and podcast host, left, brushed off the prudishness, joking: ‘Sorry if that calf flash offended anyone… Thank goodness I covered my ankles with those boots.’
Mark Gatiss is keen to bring his hit TV series Sherlock to the movies, but don’t expect a big-budget blockbuster like Avatar.
Instead of a big budget, he said Saga magazine films needed “imagination” – apparently contrary to James Cameron’s fantasy.
It’s “one of the most boring movies of all time,” he said. “You just watch the money burn.”
