Internet sleuths continue to share their theories on the Idaho murder case that left four university students brutally stabbed – as police are yet to make arrests.
More than two weeks have passed since the gruesome slayings of University of Idaho students Kaylee Goncalves, 21, Madison Mogen, 21, Xana Kernodle, 20 and Ethan Chapin, 20, inside their off-campus home in the small town of Moscow.
The grizzly murders have transfixed the nation, leaving many online to do their own digging as police have yet to identify a suspect or murder weapon.
Among the leading theories in the r/Idahomurders Reddit board include claims of a broken window that could not lock, that chloroform was used to knock out the students, and accusations that the victims’ nervous neighbor was somehow involved.
While police have determined which theories have merit and which don’t, the internet remains transfixed on the story.

Goncalves and Mogen were found on the top floor in their beds. College lovers Ethan Chapin and Xana Kernodle were found in a second floor bedroom while survivors Dylan Mortensen and Bethany Funke were sleeping on the first floor
DID THE KILLER COME THROUGH A BROKEN WINDOW?
One of the biggest theories to gain traction following the November 13 murders was a claim that the off-campus home had a broken window without a screen that the killer could have used to get inside.
One person on the Reddit board dedicated to revealing the truth behind the slayings wrote: ‘At the beginning of this case I saw a TikTok video that I think has since been removed.
‘I can’t remember who posted it. I think it was Kaylee but could’ve been Maddie.
‘The video was touring through the house, showing their storage room laundry room, etc., etc., but one very important detail they showed in the video was that there was a window without a screen that never locked because it was broken.’
The reddit user goes on to say that he watched the video ‘more than once’ and believes it has ‘since been taken down.’
‘I have been trying to find it again and I can’t,’ the post reads.

Officials have insisted over the past month that the quadruple stabbing was a ‘targeted’ attack
‘Does anyone else here remember seeing this video on TikTok? I can’t be the only one who remembers this. It was literally up there last week. It could be relevant.’
Another user replying to the original post said: ‘Yes I saw that video too! Now that you mention it I saw it but it is gone now.
‘I wonder if they took it off to examine everyone who watched it and didn’t want more views on it.’
Others noted: ‘Because in the video (since removed) she literally says… ‘and here is our window that doesn’t have a screen and never locks because it is broken.’
‘It might have been Dylan that posted it. I can’t remember. But I believe she shut down all her social media.
‘Maybe that is why the video is missing now. Crazy you brought this up because I do 100 percent remember this video now!’
Dailymail.com has contacted the Moscow Police Department whether the theory has merit, but it is yet to be ruled out as of Wednesday.
WERE THE VICTIMS KNOCKED OUT BY CHLOROFORM?
Another theory circling the internet has proposed that chloroform, a colorless, volatile, sweet-smelling liquid, which renders people unconscious if administered, was used on the victims as they were slain.
A reddit user wrote: ‘Could the murderer have potentially used chloroform? I know its a stretch of a theory, however, with the lack of immediate evidence in a killing this big, it’s coming across very calculated.
‘Considering the lack of noise it doesn’t seem like the wildest idea to consider. Chloroforming the victims would allow for more silence.
‘This is only in regards to the victims without defensive wounds. I’m just baffled.’

Police are yet to officially rule out the theory however some users don’t believe that chloroform would have been an easy way to subdue the four victims
In response another user mused: ‘If they were drunk enough to not wake up from him entering or standing over then he stabbed them in a way that punctured their lungs I don’t think they’d even be able to physically scream.
‘If he was able to get close enough to chloroform someone without them waking up he would have been close enough to do that.
‘It’s much harder to knock someone unconscious with chloroform than most people think too.’
Dailymail.com have asked police whether the autopsies of the four victims have returned any evidence of chloroform in their systems.
The theory is yet to be ruled out by authorities as of Wednesday.
WAS THE ‘SOCIALLY AWKWARD’ NEIGHBOR INVOLVED?
Meanwhile, a man living close to the four murdered University of Idaho students has vehemently denied internet sleuths’ claims that he should be considered a suspect.
Police have not named third-year law student Jeremy Reagan as a suspect in the murder case, but as of Wednesday had also not ruled him out.
Reagan insists he is ‘socially awkward,’ and has no link to the case besides living close to the scene of the crime.
He has given a series of TV interviews in the wake of the November 13 slayings that have caught armchair detectives’ eye, and triggered online smears.

Internet sleuths have accused Reagan of being responsible for the grizzly homicide
Reagan also says he has been so spooked by the backlash that he’s taken to carrying a gun to protect himself from any would-be vigilantes.
He told Court TV on Tuesday: ‘I didn’t do it. I have nothing to hide.
‘I’m willing to give DNA, fingerprints, whatever they need.’
He also revealed on News Nation’s Banfield that officers have already questioned him about the quadruple homicide and ‘didn’t bring anything to collect DNA.’
‘They said ‘If we need you, will you come down to the station?” he recounted. ‘I said, ‘Absolutely.”
DID POLICE LOOK INTO THE STRANGE RED MUSTANG?
On Monday, police acknowledged online reports of a red Mustang on S. Deakin St. allegedly being processed as part of the murder investigation.
The department debunked the rumours saying ‘this information is not accurate, and the vehicle is not connected to this incident’.
The Mustang became the focus of much attention on Reddit, with one user saying: ‘Yesterday [25 November] I took a screenshot from the Idaho murder Facebook group of what appears to be a red Mustang convertible being searched by a forensics team.’
It added: ‘The original image and thread were removed from the FB group due to disagreements on whether or not the image showed a forensics team or a group of people fixing the car.’
Michael Ruiz, investigative journalist for Fox News Digital tweeted saying: ‘#Idaho police acknowledged searching the red Mustang and say it has not brought them any closer to a suspect.
‘It was not towed away. They are ‘continuing to follow any/all possible leads.’
Police have however ruled out a red Mustang left near the crime scene as not being connected to the murders of the four students

Police can be seen pictured here searching for evidence through trash at a local refuse center. They now say police have mostly finished investigating the crime scene
The post on Reddit updated and said: ‘It was pointed out in this thread that the tail lights of a vehicle seen in the windows of a local business in the twitch video looked similar to a Mustang (if you scroll through the post you will see a picture posted in the thread of the tail lights).
‘Adding a link to the sub discussing the twitch video and the tail lights (link is also posted in the thread) a local in the sub confirmed the vehicle is still in the same location on 11-26-22 as of 2.46pm PST and that the car has a Boise Idaho plate.’
However, many also raised doubts: ‘I don’t think this is related at all, why would they be processing a car on the side of the road without gloves on or evidence bags of any sort?’
But another said: ‘This is definitely a forensic team and not a bunch of mechanics.’
Police have officially ruled out the red Mustang left near the crime scene saying it is in no way connected to the murders of the four students.
WHO ELSE HAS BEEN RULED OUT AS A SUSPECT?
The Moscow police Department told Dailymail.com that specific requests on the Idaho murder would not be responded to and ‘any information in regard to the investigation’ would be released on their website.
As of Tuesday police released a list of people who detectives do not believe are involved in the crime.
The two surviving roommates, male from the Grub Truck surveillance video, private party driver who took Goncalves and Mogen home on November 13 have all been ruled out.
‘Jack’ who had previously been accused of being linked to the murder after Mogen and Goncalves called him a number of times the night of the murder has also been ruled out.
Police added that ‘any individual at the residence when 911 was called’ had also been ruled out of the murder investigation.

WHAT OTHER THEORIES HAVE POLICE DEBUNKED?
During the investigation police said that they have collected 113 pieces of physical evidence collected and taken to the ISP crime lab.
Approximately 4,000 crime scene photographs have also been taken as well as multiple three-dimensional scans of the residence have been developed.
Over 260 digital media submissions by community members have been posted to the FBI link.
But theories on how the murder, which has rocked the small college town with a population of just 26,000, have continued to swell.
Police also released a list of theories they have debunked.
A 1999 double stabbing in Pullman, Washington, and a 2021 double stabbing (with one death) in Salem, Oregon has no connection to the murders.
Police said: ‘While these cases share similarities with the King Street homicides, there does not appear to be any evidence to support the cases are related.’
Meanwhile, reports of a skinned dog reported to Latah County Sheriff’s Office and passed onto Moscow Police has also been ruled out as a connection.
Deceased animals left on the resident’s property has been determined as wildlife activity and also not related to the murders.
Lastly, online reports of the victims being tied and gagged have been described by police as ‘not accurate.’
