Liverpool news: CCTV of car seen before Ashley Dale was shot dead in her home released

Ashley Dale died after her killer forced open the front door of her home in the early hours of Sunday August 21 and fired several shots

Footage of a car being driven in the area before Ashley Dale was shot and killed in Liverpool has been released by detectives.

The 28-year-old died after her killer forced open the front door of her home in Old Swan in the early hours of August 21 and fired several “indiscriminate” shots.

Merseyside Police attended Ms Dale’s home after being called by concerned neighbors who heard gunshots and saw a woman lying on the ground in the property’s backyard. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

Now officers have identified a gray Hyundai 130 N and released a clip showing the car in the Page Moss area before the evening of the murder. The car has not yet been recovered.

The fatal shooting of Ms Dale came five days after the death of Sam Rimmer, 22, in Dingle and less than 24 hours before the murder of schoolgirl Olivia Pratt-Korbel, nine, in Dovecot.

On September 14, officers arrested four men in connection with the council worker’s murder at locations in Merseyside and Cumbria.

Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said: ‘We now believe this Hyundai 103 N Performance car was driven in the Dovecot and Page Moss areas on the night of Ashley’s murder, including on Pilch Lane.

“As we seek to gather all available evidence, I would like to continue to appeal to anyone who lives in these areas who may have information about this car.

“This could range from finding out who was driving, seeing someone being picked up or capturing other images or footage on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices. We also need to know where the car is now.

“Please don’t assume that what you know or have captured isn’t important, or that someone else has already told us.”

‘A minor detail could have a major significance and we will look at whatever comes up and make that assessment, and that’s all part of the detectives building up a convincing picture, which of course can take time.

“If you have not yet come forward, please submit any information you have directly to our investigation team through our online portal: Public Portal (mipp.police.uk). This will ensure that your information is received and processed as quickly as possible by detectives.

“Please come forward with everything you know to help us bring those responsible to justice and get justice for Ashley’s family.”

Tributes were paid to him on social media, including by Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell, who wrote: ‘My heart goes out to the family, friends and loved ones of Ashley Dale as they rest it today.

“Send my deepest condolences and condolences on this difficult day.”

Miss Dale was considered a ‘rising star’ at Knowsley Council, where she worked as an environmental health officer. Flowers were laid on her desk as colleagues paid their respects.

Knowsley Council leader Cllr Graham Morgan said the gesture was made by members of his team on the council “particularly affected” by his death.

Speaking at a Knowsley Council cabinet meeting earlier this month, Cllr Morgan said: ‘The council lost a rising star when she was tragically and senselessly killed.
