January 11, Kathmandu. Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Ravi Lamichhane’s citizenship dispute hearing started in the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court is sitting in suspense.
Kamu Chief Justice Harikrishna Karki, Vishwambhar Prasad Shrestha, Ishwar Khatiwada, Dr. The writ petitioners have finished their arguments in the bench of Anand Mohan Bhattarai and Anil Kumar Sinha on Wednesday.
They claim that after Lamichhane gave up his American green card, he will be relieved of his post because he did not start the process to renew his Nepali citizenship.
Presenting the argument note on behalf of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers, the co-lawyer Sanjivraj Regmi has claimed that this is not a substantive arrangement but only a procedural arrangement.
“There is no situation where a person becomes a non-citizen on the basis of not following the normal procedures,” he said. There is no reason for the petitioners to say that humanitarian Ravi Lamichhane is not a citizen of Nepal.’
On Ravi’s behalf, senior advocate Sushil Pantalen said that if he renounced his Nepalese citizenship, he should apply to regain it.
In Ravi’s case, Nepali citizenship is automatically revoked if he gets another country, he argues that Nepali citizenship will be automatically retained after he leaves another country. As the debate has not been completed, the adjournment is scheduled for Friday.
