Neil Kinnock’s Trans Grandson’s Mother Shares Concerns About His Double Mastectomy
Denmark’s first female prime minister has expressed fears over her 23-year-old child’s decision to undergo a double mastectomy after changing her sex.
Helle Thorning-Schmidt – the daughter-in-law of former Labor greats Neil and Glenys Kinnock – said she fears Milo, formerly known as Camilla, may no longer be able to breastfeed if children arrive on the scene.
Speaking on a podcast series last month in which Milo spoke about his experience of gender reassignment, Ms Thorning-Schmidt said: ‘It’s a big operation and the only thing that challenged me was that you cannot breastfeed if you have children.
“It’s cool to be able to breastfeed your baby.
“I did it myself with great pleasure and I was very happy to be able to breastfeed my two children. It is a great thing to give up.

Ms Thorning-Schmidt was so concerned about the issue that she questioned Milo – who calls himself ‘non-binary transmasculine’ and uses masculine pronouns – to the point that he became ‘bored’.
“But it’s just – my role in life is to test whether Milo was completely sure of his decision,” she added.
However, she clarified that she realized that being non-binary was “a pretty cool place” because “you don’t have to pick a side.”
It was revealed in The Mail on Sunday last year that Milo underwent breast removal surgery after coming out as ‘non-binary’ – meaning a person identifies as neither female nor a man.
In the three-part podcast series ‘Han/Ham/Milo’ (He/Him/Milo), which airs in Danish, Milo said that before the mastectomy, his father, Labor MP Stephen Kinnock, surrendered to Denmark to be with him.
According to Milo’s sister Johanna, their father cooked a “delicious” curry the day before the operation and the family watched a Harry Potter film.
Describing the moment they collected Milo – who was still ‘hazy’ – from hospital after surgery, Ms Thorning-Schmidt said: ‘It was quite a special experience and we were relieved that it was over. You’re always a little worried when someone has surgery.
Milo shared in another episode how one of the most “freeing” experiences since the operation has been swimming without boobs.

“Swimming is probably 70 per cent the reason I had this surgery,” he said, adding that he can now take off his top “without thinking about it and to show the scars.”
“I think the scars are pretty cool,” Milo said. ‘My scars have many layers. On the one hand, they show the world that I am trans. I want to show that I am trans and proud.
But Milo admitted that even after the mastectomy he was “still a bit confused”: “There is a feeling of confusion about the body, where it is.”
