Former UKIP leader Nigel Farage has reportedly held talks with disgruntled Red Wall Tory MPs as he plans to make a political comeback with his UK reform party.

Mr Farage has “tested the waters” with northern MPs unhappy with Rishi Sunak’s leadership, according to the Sun.

The prominent Brexiteer told the paper that although outright defection has yet to be discussed, ‘there are a lot of very, very disillusioned Tories out there’.

It comes amid growing public anger over growing numbers of migrants crossing the Channel and Reform UK has seen a surge in support over the past month, with more than 5,000 people joining.

Reform UK – formerly the Brexit Party – are eyeing a number of Labor and Conservative seats they want to win in the next election, including Ed Miliband’s Doncaster North and Red Wall Tory MP Jill Mortimer’s Hartlepool.

Ms Mortimer’s seat is being contested by Reform UK leader Richard Tice, who previously tried and failed to become a City MP in the 2019 general election.

The multi-millionaire businessman even said he set up a hotline for disgruntled conservatives. He said: “We have common sense policies. This is why people join us. People are leaving other parties in droves.

And in his first major political intervention in nearly three years, Mr Farage this week coerced Brexit supporters into abandoning the Conservative Party and backing Reform UK in the upcoming election.

As figures revealed net migration to the UK hit a record high of more than 500,000 on Thursday, Mr Farage called the Tories a “shame” and said the party must be “wiped out”.

But some Red Wall Tories fear growing support for Reform UK will squeeze their vote in the next election and help Labor get in.

A former minister said: ‘If Reform UK gets even 10% of the vote it could spell disaster for me.’

Meanwhile, the Mail on Sunday revealed today that some ‘wallers’ had discussed forming a new party which would be tougher than Rishi Sunak’s government on issues including immigration, crime and Brexit.
