“It’s kind of weird knowing that my husband is such a big part of everyone’s festivities. Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody turns 50 next year. The track is now as much a part of Christmas as crackers and cranberry sauce. ‘

She also said she finds Christmas shopping difficult at this time of year too, as her husband’s voice “follows her everywhere” – as the song is played in many stores.

In the column, she also shared a fun anecdote from a time when Noddy was shopping with their son Django who was four when the song was released.

The band formed in Wolverhampton in 1966 with drummer Don Powell and violinist/bassist Jim Lea alongside Holder and Dave Hill.

They became one of Britain’s biggest rock bands of the 1970s, enjoying huge success with six number one singles.

Their biggest hit was Merry Christmas Everybody in 1973, with its memorable chorus: “So here it is, Merry Christmas/Everybody’s having fun…”

Holder and Lea left the band in 1992, with Hill and Powell continuing to perform as Slade along with a variety of other singers and musicians.

But in 2020, Powell said he was fired from the band. He claimed Hill emailed him without warning, which Hill denies.

And in 2015, Holder said, “It saddens me that the four guys who were at Slade couldn’t get together and sit around the dinner table.

“Five years ago I brought the four of us together to air our grievances, but it was too painful.”

Holder and Hill sparked speculation the band might be back together when they posted a snap together in February.

The singer and guitarist posed for a photo taken by the Holder author’s wife, Suzan, which she uploaded to Instagram.

She captioned the image: ‘Lunch today. I won’t answer any more questions.

Holder and Hill haven’t played together since Holder left the band in 1992. He has since said it would take a “miracle” to reunite the four original members.
