Rolf Harris gravely sick with neck cancer in UK as paedophile can no longer speak

Neighbors and friends have confirmed that the disgraced Australian children’s entertainer has become “seriously ill” five years after his release from prison.

The convicted pedophile, 92, now lives a secluded life in the English village of Bray in Berkshire with his 64-year-old wife Alwen Hughes, who suffers from Alzheimer’s disease.

It is understood his health deteriorated after the sudden death of his beloved poodle earlier this year.

“Only the carers and nurses, who look after him 24 hours a day, come and go. I’m told he can’t eat anymore,’ neighbor Portia Wooderson told The Daily Telegraph.

Private investigator and author William Merritt confirmed that Harris was “gravely ill”, adding that he preferred to be alone and “didn’t particularly like children” as he “hated noise”.

But he insists that Harris is still the entertainer when he wants.

“(He) is battling neck cancer and gargling when he talks. It’s hard to fathom him, but he’s still the artist,” Mr. Merritt said.

“As soon as every other person walks into the room, he becomes a big kid again. He’s an artistic type and will try to perform at the right time, even when he’s not feeling well.

It is understood Harris’ health has deteriorated in recent years and he was hospitalized while behind bars when his diabetes spiraled out of control.

“He is in poor health and has declined rapidly. He doesn’t go out anymore and when he does, it’s only with his carer,’ a neighbor said in 2019.

Harris has not spoken publicly since being released from prison in 2017, but released a statement in Mr Merritt’s recently published book Rolf Harris: The defense team’s special investigator reveals the truth behind the trials.

“I understand that we live in a post-truth era and I know that few people will want to know what really happened in the three criminal trials I faced – it’s easier to tell me condemn and compare myself to people like Saville and Glitter,” Harris said.

“I was found guilty of offenses that I did not commit at my first trial. It was not just my opinion, but that of the Court of Appeal that overturned one of my convictions. I had already served the prison sentence at the time of the appeal.

“I switched legal teams after the first trial, and was told if the truth was out there William (Merritt) would find it and he did.

“The evidence he found proved my innocence to two subsequent juries.

“I would be in jail serving time for crimes I didn’t commit if it hadn’t been for William’s investigation.

“It’s hard to put into words the injustice I feel.”

Harris married his sculptor wife Alwen in March 1958 after meeting at art school. The couple have a daughter Bindi.

Best known for hits Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport and Jake The Peg, Harris also painted the 80th birthday portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

He was the face of British Paints for more than three decades before being dumped by the brand when he was arrested in 2013.

The following year, Harris was found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault and was sentenced to five years and nine months in prison.

The assaults include one on an eight-year-old autograph hunter, two on girls in their early teens and a catalog of abuse against his daughter’s friend of over 16 years.

He was paroled in May 2017 after serving three years behind bars.

Of the 12 convictions, one was overturned on appeal in November 2017 and a jury chose not to convict him in two additional cases the same year.
