The professional declutterer began by explaining that when you receive a gift from a loved one, you feel obligated to keep it forever.
You feel this way because you convince yourself that it is “rude” to give or throw away these things.
However, Julia suggested that you remember that you have most likely given gifts to many people throughout your life and do not expect them to keep those gifts forever.
She added that gift givers often don’t even remember the gifts they gave you.

The professional declutterer has revealed that many of its customers are ‘suddenly responsible for finding homes for heirlooms’ after the death of a loved one.
From photo albums to clothes, Julia said the experience could be an “emotional minefield.”
And it makes perfect sense why anyone would want to keep something from someone they loved who has passed away.
Giving away or throwing away things that were important to you as a child may seem disrespectful.
But, Julia explained that the “past should not be kept for posterity”.
She advised her clients to consider whether they really wanted to keep these items or just felt compelled to.
Julia also said it might be helpful to consider whether or not future generations would want these heirlooms.
Overall, the professional declutterer said “guilt” can lead to you filling your basement with someone else’s stuff.
And the longer you hold on to it, the harder it will be to get rid of it.
She added, “If looking at this item hurts you, get rid of it. Life is too short. You deserve to be surrounded by things that make you happy. ‘
