Virat Kohli surpasses Mahela Jayawardene for the most in ODI cricket history

Virat Kohli joins the elite list of batsmen, surpassing Mahela Jayawardene in the list of ODI top scorers

Virat Kohli is 5th in the list of highest scorers in ODIs

Virat Kohli has overtaken Mahela Jayawardene to become the 5th highest run scorer in ODI cricket history. Kohli achieved this feat in the third ODI against Sri Lanka.

Undoubtedly one of the greatest batsmen of all time, Virat Kohli hit yet another milestone in his illustrious cricket career as he crossed the 62-run mark in the 3rd ODI against Sri Lanka in Trivandrum on Sunday. With this innings against Lanka, Kohli surpassed the great Mahela Jayawardene in the list of batsmen with the most runs in the ODI format. Kohli is now at no. 5th position, Jayawardene has been pushed down to the sixth position.

Virat Kohli needed 63 runs to overtake Jayawardene in the match. The Indian batting superstar scored 12,588 runs while the Sri Lankan great had 12,650 runs under his belt.

None other on this list but Sachin Tendulkar Next, who has 18426 runs in the format. Kumar Sangakkara (14234 runs), Ricky Ponting (13704 runs), and Sanath Jayasuriya (13430 runs) are currently ahead of Kohli.

Earlier in the series, Kohli scored his 45th ODI century as he scored three figures in the 1st ODI against Sri Lanka. It was the second consecutive ODI century for Kohli who scored 113 against the Bengal Tigers in the 3rd ODI of the series.

Virat Kohli will be hoping to complete his second century in the third ODI against Sri Lanka. If he manages to do so, it will be his 21st century at home in the 50-over format as far as international cricket is concerned. In the process, Virat will also score his 10th ODI century against Sri Lanka, more than any other player in the history of the game.
